Maya Angelou, esteemed poet and activist, premiered Georgia, Georgia on March 10, 1972 and became the first Black woman to have a motion picture produced.
America I AM; The African American Imprint, presented by Tavis Smiley, celebrates nearly 500 years of African American contributions to the United States. Visitors of the exhibition will have the opportunity to witness more than 200 rare historic objects, documents, photos and multimedia that explore how African Americans have helped shape this country.
The exhibition is now open at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.
